Massachusetts bans certain items, including mattresses, TVs (CRTs), large appliances and tires, from landfills and incinerators so they get recycled instead. You can still put them in our dumpster for a per-item fee, and propane tanks are accepted for a fee too: TVs / CRTs $50, Mattresses / box springs $100, Appliances with Freon $50, Other appliances not placed on top of the load or at the back door $50, Tires $25, Propane tanks $25. Place them on top of the load or at the back door and let us know they're there.
What is the Massachusetts waste ban?
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) bans certain materials from being thrown away in landfills and incinerators. These items have to be separated and recycled. That's why dumpster companies across the state charge extra for them: someone has to pull them out and take them to a recycler. You can read the full list on MassDEP's waste disposal bans page.
Waste ban and special-handling items we accept, and the fees
Mattresses, TVs/CRTs, large appliances and tires are on the state's waste ban list. Propane tanks aren't, but they need special handling because they can hold pressurized gas.

Appliances without Freon (washers, dryers, stoves) are no charge when placed on top of the load or at the back door of the dumpster. Just let us know they're there so we can pull them out for recycling.
How to load them
- Put them on top of the load or at the back door. We need to be able to pull them out for recycling. Items buried under debris are hard to remove.
- Tell us they're there when you call for pickup, so we can plan for them.
- Keep yard waste separate. Yard waste is accepted, but it can't be mixed with other debris.
What's not permitted at all
These can't go in a dumpster for any fee: wet paint, oil, gasoline, asbestos, other hazardous materials. Check with your town's transfer station or household hazardous waste day for safe disposal.
Does this apply to junk removal too?
Yes. The same recycling fees apply when our crew removes these items for you. The difference is we do the sorting and loading.
